Fresh Face for ISO 9001 in Winter of 2008
The Standard ISO 9001:2008 was published on 15th November 2008 as an international standard to which MQA are assessing. It is the revised version of ISO 9001:2000. ISO 9001:2008 does not contain any new requirements. ISO 9001:2008 only introduces clarifications to the existing requirements of ISO 9001:2000 based on eight years of experience of implementing the standard Worldwide with about one million certificates issued in 170 countries to date. It also introduces changes intended to improve consistency with ISO14001:2004. The differences are listed in detail in annex B at the back of the Standard.
If one of our registered companies, or en route to first time assessment, you will need to obtain a copy and ensure that your documentation references coincide with the new Standard. Available as a hard copy or electronic format, you can obtain a copy of the Standard by using the following link.
We have been advised by our accreditation body UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) that upgrade visits will not be necessary. Normal surveillance visits will be carried out and will be to the new Standard. So, update your documentation to reference the standard in its new form. We will visit you in the normal pattern for surveillance and re-assessment. The update rather than upgrade is seamless.
With regard to your Certificate of Registration and its validity, we shall issue you with a fresh and updated certificate showing ISO 9001:2008 early in 2009 if you are already registered, or upon successful registration as appropriate. This is so that you may display this to customers and in tenders etc. All as painless as possible. The logo remains the same, so no need to change stationery or websites. We all have 12 months from release to get updated but we thought you’d like to join us in getting things speedily implemented.
