Standards ISO 9001
Often referred to - little defined – ISO stands for International Standards organisation based in Geneva Switzerland. The international standard of quality systems. ISO 9000 is a quality system standard. It applies not to products and services, but to the process which creates them. It is designed and intended to apply to almost any process anywhere in the world. It emphasises principles, goals and objectives. All of these focus upon one main aim – the same aim which drives every business – meeting customer requirements and expectations.

IS0 9000 is good sound business sense. MQA present ISO with a non-bureaucratic approach and have developed a special add on for Marketing service companies MQA 01.

The standard is periodically updated but fundamentally it covers three main elements - recognising planning, control and documentation.

Previously ISO 9000:1994 version, the latest 2000 version of the ISO 9000 standard needs to be adopted as an upgrade to those organisations already holding a certificate. The  assessment needs to be carried out before the deadline of December 2003.

So for companies with existing registration and a certificate to the 1994 standard, they need to book an upgrade assessment. This can be carried out on a stage basis or at the next surveillance visit before December 2003. The differences between the old and new standard are straight forward.
